Vegans love being vegan because of the great food, unlimited carbs, and the funny nicknames. This pokes fun at vegans and also highlights some of the great-and not so great parts of being vegan.
Too often vegans are seen in such a serious light but we have a lot of fun with ourselves too.
1. The good food
My non-vegan friend went to a great vegan restaurant in SF and said, “I didn’t even know food could taste like this without meat. It’s so delicious it can’t be vegan!” It is, my friend, it is.
When done well, vegan food is incredible. Vegans get really creative with flavors and spices and have to think outside of the box. Because meat doesn’t dominate the dish, we make the food taste good in endless ways. This makes eating feel like an adventure.
If done well, of course…
2. The really bad food
On the other hand we get some of the WORST food but this leads to fantastic stories. Take, for instance, going to a non-vegan pizza place.
“Oh, there are no vegan meats or cheeses? Okay, I guess I’ll settle for a cheeseless pizza then.”
“The dough isn’t vegan either? Okay, I’ll have a bowl of pizza sauce with a non-plastic straw (wouldn’t want to harm the turtles). Thanks. Mmm, tasty.”
This might be frustrating in the moment but makes for hilarious stories.
3. We make fun of ourselves in the best ways
One of the best things my friend said was something about one of his friends. “She’s very vegan. Like, very vegan. As in, she doesn’t drink alcohol, is whole foods plant based, and wakes up at 5am every morning for yoga. That kind of vegan.”
To which I responded, “Ohhh, one of those.” And he started cracking up laughing.
Yeah, she’s one of those hippie dippie, yogi, healthnut, “Hi, I’m vegan, who are you?” types.Which we think are hilarious too, by the way.
4. We name our kids vegan
Hahaha nah, I’m kidding.
5. We get to repeat ourselves over and over again
We have so much fun repeating ourselves over and over and over and over and over again.
We do in fact actually eat! Yes, we get enough protein! No, we’re not wasting away into nothingness!
Repetition is exhilarating.
6. We say funny things like “feeding two birds with one scone”
Okay so PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) released this amazing tweet talking about how to “remove speciesism from your daily conversations”. Using it in real conversations is but so funny and completely unexpected.
For instance, instead of saying “Kill two birds with one stone”, say “Feed two birds with one scone”. I have had WAY too much fun slipping that into conversations and pretending like it’s completely normal.
When they realize it, their reactions are priceless. If it’s done with good intentions, it brightens the room.
7. And call our lovers “agave” instead of “honey”
So I’m pretty sassy already, and I definitely put attitude into this one. Instead of saying, “Oh honey, no.” I say, “Oh agave, no”. I cannot say it with a straight face though, it gets me every single time.
I like feeling very vegan and making fun of us so I start giggling uncontrollably. It makes other people laugh too.
8. We take an almost unhealthy pleasure in showing a non-vegan amazing vegan food
This gets me PUMPED, it’s like one of those, “I can’t believe it’s not butter!” commercials. It makes us super happy when vegan food is so good that it’s not just good vegan food. It’s just good food.
It feels like an accomplishment when we show other people that.
9. We feel really logical sometimes
Kills a dog = psychopath
Kills a pig = no worries
Kills nothing = extremist
For some reason society feels really illogical right now.
10. We eat an absurd amount of carbs
Oh my goodness do we eat a lot of carbs? It’s the BEST thing in the world and the best thing to love about being vegan. It’s everyone’s favorite food type and we indulge as much as we want.
So much pasta, potatoes, and way too many sweets. It doesn’t get better than this.
11. Always hyped up on sugar because fruit
We tend to eat a ridiculous amount of fruit because it is so, so yummy, nutritious, and versatile.
And who needs coffee when you eat 5 bananas for breakfast? Mmm fruit. More sugar means more happiness and fun.
12. Of course the animals
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning how great it is to respect all animals with our lifestyle. It makes us feel really good about health, ethical, and environmental reasons.
We are truly an animal loving bunch.
